A little history
The Pembroke Iron Works began operating around 1720, extracting bog iron from local ponds and waterways.
Between 1678 and 1871, an estimated 1,025 vessels were built at shipyards along the North River, which forms part of Pembroke's border.
The town began regulating the taking of herring on its rivers in 1741, a practice that continues today at the Thomas Reading Herring Run.
