A little history
Hanson was first settled in 1632 as the western parish of Pembroke and incorporated as its own town in 1820, named for Alexander Contee Hanson, a Maryland publisher and U.S. senator.
The Ocean Spray cranberry cooperative was founded in Hanson before moving its headquarters to Plymouth in 1977, reflecting the town's cranberry-growing history.
The Plymouth County Hospital, a tuberculosis sanatorium, operated in Hanson from 1919 to 1992.
