A little history
Hanover was settled in 1649 by William Barstow and incorporated as a town in 1727, likely named for the House of Hanover.
The town was a major shipbuilding center on the North River; the Grand Turk, one of the first U.S. ships to trade with China, was built here.
Hanover industry included early tack-making machinery and munitions production during World War I and World War II.
