Plympton was first settled in 1662 as the western parish of the town of Plymouth and was incorporated as its own town in 1707.
Plympton gave up land to help form the town of Halifax in 1734 and the town of Carver in 1790.
Deborah Sampson, known for disguising herself as a man to serve as a soldier in the American Revolution, was born in Plympton in 1760.
