A little history
Duxbury was settled by Pilgrims from Plymouth starting in 1627 and incorporated as a town in 1637, making it one of the oldest towns in Plymouth County.
By the 1840s Duxbury was producing an average of ten large sailing vessels a year, making it a major 19th-century shipbuilding center on the South Shore.
The town's shipbuilding economy declined later in the 19th century as steamships and railroads displaced sailing vessels.

Duxbury has no MBTA commuter rail station of its own; the nearest is Kingston station just south of town. GATRA's SAIL line and Plymouth & Brockton bus service provide some local and regional bus connections, and Route 3 (Pilgrims Highway) passes through with exits near the town.
