A little history

Buckland was settled in 1742 under the name "No Town" and incorporated on April 14, 1779; a sawmill built that year by Othneil Taylor and Asaph White helped spur early settlement.

Mary Lyon, who went on to found Mount Holyoke Female Seminary (now Mount Holyoke College), was born on a farm in Buckland in 1797 and stayed on the family farm into her teens.

Shelburne Falls, the village Buckland shares with Shelburne, has a commercial district recognized as a historic district on the National Register of Historic Places.
