A little history
In 1636, about 30 families settled the area then called Pyaug, land purchased from Sachem Sowheag.
The J.B. Williams Company, founded in Glastonbury, is believed to have been the world's first commercial soap manufacturing business.
Glastonbury freed its enslaved residents in the 1780s, roughly 60 years before Connecticut formally abolished slavery.
