A little history
The area was originally inhabited by the Podunk people; Thomas Burnham purchased land here in 1659, and the town separated from Hartford to incorporate in October 1783.
French forces under the Comte de Rochambeau encamped in East Hartford during the Revolutionary War en route to the Yorktown campaign.
Pratt & Whitney (now part of Raytheon Technologies) relocated to East Hartford in 1929, shifting the town's economy from tobacco farming to aerospace manufacturing; it remains the town's largest employer.
