Skinner State Park and the Summit House
Skinner State Park surrounds Mount Holyoke, the westernmost peak of the Mount Holyoke Range, and is reached from Route 47 in Hadley. The park has over 40 miles of trails, including an 11-mile stretch of the Metacomet-Monadnock Trail, and the historic Prospect (Summit) House, built in 1851 and restored for public tours, hosts summer concerts at the summit.

A little history
Hadley was first settled in 1659 by Puritan colonists from Hartford and Wethersfield, Connecticut, led by John Russell, and was incorporated as a town on May 22, 1661.
For roughly two centuries, farms along the Connecticut River's fertile 'Hadley loam' made the town a major agricultural center, especially for asparagus, earning it the nickname 'Asparagus Capital of the World.'
During King Philip's War, the regicide General William Goffe reportedly helped defend Hadley from an attack, a story later known as the legend of the 'Angel of Hadley.'
