A little history
Mendon was settled by English colonists in 1660 and incorporated on May 15, 1667, on land that once covered about 64 square miles before later towns were set off from it.
The area was originally home to Nipmuc people; "Nipmuc" is generally translated as "people of the fresh water" or "small pond place."
A milestone marking 37 miles from Boston, erected in 1772 along the old Middle Post Road (now Route 16), still stands in town.
