A little history

Holland was originally settled as part of Wales, and was set off and incorporated as its own town on July 5, 1783.

The town is named for Lord Holland, an English statesman who lobbied in Parliament for American independence.

Holland separated from Wales in part because the town center of Wales was on the far side of a mountain, making travel difficult for residents.

Foundations

Ask about foundation testing

On a home with a poured concrete foundation, ask whether it has been tested.

Well & septic

Homes generally use private wells and septic

Holland has no townwide public water or sewer system described on record, so buyers should confirm well and septic details for any property, including a Title 5 septic inspection before closing, as Massachusetts requires.

Properties around Hamilton Reservoir, Holland Pond and Lake Siog can carry additional considerations for shoreline use, docks and water access; ask the town about any lake-specific regulations before making an offer.
