Fighting at Concord's Old North Bridge on April 19, 1775, was part of the opening battle of the American Revolutionary War.
In the 19th century, Concord was home at various times to Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau, Nathaniel Hawthorne, and Louisa May Alcott, and in 2012 it became the first U.S. community to ban the sale of single-serving plastic water bottles.
