Wolcott was originally known as Farmingbury; a tie-breaking vote by Lieutenant Governor Oliver Wolcott decided the town's incorporation in 1796, and it was renamed in his honor.
An F3 tornado struck Wolcott on May 24, 1962, causing substantial damage and injuries.
