A little history

Prospect was incorporated as a town in 1827, formed from the South Farms section of Waterbury and the West Rocks section of Cheshire.

The town was originally called Columbia Parish after its 1797 Congregational church, but was denied the name Columbia at incorporation because a town in Tolland County already held it, so it took the name Prospect for the view from its town green.

The first parlor matches made in the United States were produced in Prospect at the Ives & Judd factory.
