A little history
Willington's land was purchased in 1720 by eight men from England who named the 16,000-acre tract Wellington; the spelling changed to Willington when the town incorporated in May 1727.
By 1845, 19th-century Willington was an industrial town with a thread mill, a cotton mill, three silk factories, a scythe factory, four comb factories, button mills and a glassworks producing demijohns and flasks.
The town's public library moved into its current standalone building in autumn 2006, after previously operating out of Hall Memorial School.
