Living in Plymouth, Connecticut

Plymouth is a town in southeastern Litchfield County made up of three villages: Plymouth Center, Terryville and Pequabuck. Bristol borders it to the east and Waterbury to the south. The town grew up around clockmaking: Eli Terry, Seth Thomas and Silas Hoadley all ran clock factories here in the early 1800s, and the Plymouth Hollow section split off in the 1880s to become the separate town of Thomaston, named for Thomas.

Plymouth was incorporated in 1795 and became known nationally for clockmaking; Eli Terry, Seth Thomas and Silas Hoadley all operated clock factories in town in the early 1800s.

In the 1880s the Plymouth Hollow section of town separated to form the town of Thomaston, named for Seth Thomas.

Flood maps

The Pequabuck River runs west to east through the center of town, through Terryville, and Hancock Brook and its reservoir lie in the southern part of town; land near these waterways can fall in FEMA flood zones. We check FEMA's map before you offer.

Water & sewer

Check which utilities reach the property

Public water from Connecticut Water Company and sewer through the town's Water Pollution Control Authority mainly serve Terryville and Plymouth Center. Homes elsewhere in town may rely on private wells and septic systems, which we factor into loan underwriting.

Older housing stock

Plymouth has a lot of 18th- and 19th-century homes

The town's oldest known home dates to the 1690s–1700s, and Plymouth Center is a National Register historic district. Older homes can mean older wiring, heating, roofs and foundations, so we recommend a full inspection before you're locked into a purchase contract.

All loans are subject to credit approval, underwriting, and property and program requirements. CHFA and USDA limits and eligibility are set by those agencies and change from time to time.
