A little history
Plainfield was incorporated in 1699 as the town of Quinebaug and renamed Plainfield the following year.
The Moosup and Quinebaug Rivers provided water power for textile mills, and four rail lines once crossed the town, making it an industrial center in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
Baseball player Walt Dropo, known as 'the Moose from Moosup,' grew up in the Moosup village; his family worked in the local textile industry.
