In 1639, Rev. Peter Prudden purchased land that became part of Orange from the area's Native American inhabitants for goods including six coats, ten blankets and a kettle.
The town was named after William III of England, Prince of Orange, following the Glorious Revolution of 1688.
West Haven separated from Orange to become its own town in 1921.
