Wilbraham was first settled in 1730 and was incorporated as a town, set off from Springfield, on June 15, 1763.

Wilbraham & Monson Academy, a private school in the town center, was founded in 1804.

On June 1, 2011, two tornadoes touched down in Wilbraham, an EF-1 and an EF-3, with the stronger of the two causing extensive damage along the Tinkham Road corridor.
