Rehoboth was settled by English colonists in 1643 and incorporated in 1645, making it one of the oldest towns in the former Plymouth Colony; its name comes from Genesis 26:22, meaning 'enlargement.'
Anawan Rock, a large puddingstone boulder off Route 44, marks the spot where Wampanoag leader Annawon was captured in 1676, an event traditionally associated with the end of King Philip's War.
The Hornbine School, a one-room schoolhouse built in 1845, still stands in the Hornbine section of town and is preserved as a museum.
