Norwood was first settled in 1678 by Ezra Morse and was set off from Dedham as an independent town in 1872.
Local Minuteman captain Aaron Guild rode from the area to Concord in 1775 and took part in the running battle that pushed British troops back to Boston.
United Fruit Company opened a major banana-ripening and research facility in Norwood in 1955, later developing freeze-dried food products there.
