A little history
Granby was originally the east parish of Hadley; after prolonged tension between the parishes, the Massachusetts General Court set off the area as the separate Town of Granby, incorporated on June 11, 1768.
Granby is one of only three towns in Massachusetts whose local telephone service was never furnished by the former Bell System; the town has maintained its own independent phone service, Granby Telephone & Telegraph, since 1903.
