A little history
Stamford was settled in 1641 under the name Rippowam, after the Siwanoy inhabitants' name for the area, and was later renamed for Stamford, Lincolnshire, England.
Stamford was the site of a set of witch trials in 1692, the same year as the Salem trials in Massachusetts.
