A little history

Hamden was incorporated as a separate town in 1786 by about 1,400 local residents, named after English statesman John Hampden.

Eli Whitney established a firearms manufacturing works in Hamden in 1798, an early site for interchangeable-parts mass production.

The Mill River was dammed to form Lake Whitney, which today borders New Haven and Hamden.
