A little history
Granby was settled as part of Simsbury and became an independent town in 1786.
In 1737, Dr. Samuel Higley struck what are considered the first unauthorized coins minted in the American colonies, and the first in Connecticut, from copper he mined in Granby.
The town seal depicts the Dewey-Granby Oak, a white oak estimated at 450-500 years old and thought to be one of the oldest trees in New England.
