A little history

The area was known first as Hammonasset, then Kenilworth, before becoming part of Killingworth in the colonial period.

In 1838 the Connecticut General Assembly incorporated the southern portion of Killingworth as the Town of Clinton, named for New York governor DeWitt Clinton.

Abraham Pierson held early classes in his Clinton parsonage in the early 1700s that later grew into Yale University.
